About Whiteman AFB, MO
Whiteman AFB is operated by the United States Air Force and is located 70 miles away from Kansas City, Missouri near Knob Noster. The bases was built in 1928 and has been in continual since since 1963. However, it was used during World War II and the early years of the Cold War as well before 1963.
Whiteman AFB's host unit is the 509th Bomb Wing. The 509th Bomb Wing specializes in the B-2 Spirit Stealth Bomber, which was created to be used in striking high-value targets conventional aircraft can't reach for a number of reasons.
Interestingly, Whiteman AFB is a popular base in pop culture, having been one of the settings for the movie "The Day After" as well as the novel "Plan of Attack."
