About WRNMMC, MD
The Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC) is a military medical center located in Bethesda, Maryland. It was dedicated in 2011, six years after a merger was announced that would have medical personnel for the Army, Navy and Air Force working together to aid in the treatment of injured and sick veterans
However, the origins of this facility date back to 1942, when the Bethesda Naval Hospital opened. The merger with Walter Reed Army Medical Center kept the name of the man who helped discover how yellow fever was treated, which helped lead to a vaccine and the eventual construction of the Panama Canal.
The facility has long been used by the incumbent president for any needed treatment. On the evening of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy on November 22, 1963, the late president's autopsy was conducted. The subsequent findings have since become the source of controversy.
