Located on 36,000 acres of desert terrain in Herlong, California and operated by the United States Army, Sierra Army Depot is an Army post and ammunition storage facility. In addition to substantial space, the area is also an ideal place for material storage due to the dry climate and inland location.

The Depot's staff consists of machinists, craftsmen, equipment operators and support personnel that are responsible for the storage, maintenance, repair, and shipping of military materials.

Sierra Army Depot was established in during World War II in 1942 to provide storage for general U.S. Military supplies and Treasury department materials.

On base, there are 165 housing units, three schools, a credit union, barbershop, chapel, and theater, as well as Honey Lake. The Depot employs approximately 570 people.
