About Selfridge ANG Base, MI
Selfridge Air National Guard Base (The 127th Wing) is located near Detroit, Michigan in Harrison Township. The base is run by the Michigan Air National Guard. It is also a duty station for every branch of the U.S. Armed Forces, and works closely with the Department of Homeland Security. The complex is operated by the Air National Guard, functioning under the jurisdiction of the United States Air Force when needed.
SANGB began as a simple field leased from its owner in 1917. From this start during World War I, it has been an important training ground for various squadrons. Over the years, it has served members of every branch of the United States military--including the historical Tuskegee Airmen.
In 1947, the then expanded and developed field was officially given the title of Selfridge Air Force Base. Today, the base is home to approximately 6,000 military members, military personnel, and civilians.
