About Scott AFB, IL
Located 30 minutes east of St. Louis in southeastern Illinois, Scott Air Force Base was built in 1917 and currently houses the United States Transportation Command as well as the U.S. Army Surface Deployment and Distribution Command. The 375th Airlift Wing, led by Colonel Laura L. Lenderman, is currently garrisoned at the Base.
Scott AFB is home to approximately 4,668 active duty servicemen and woman, as well as an additional 2,267 members of the Air National Guard. The base was named after Corporal Frank S. Scott, who was the first enlisted member of the United States Air Force to die in an aircraft accident back in 1912.
The airfield at Scott Air Force Base is known as MidAmerica St. Louis Airport, and services both military and civilian flights. Over the last couple of years, Scott AFB has been the beneficiary of over $16 million in infrastructure improvements.
