Patrick AFB is a United States Air Force installation in Brevard County, Florida. Also located in the county is the massive and iconic John F. Kennedy Space Center. Though only about 1,2000 people live at Patrick AFB, over 13,000 service members, dependents, civilians, and contractors are employed on base, 10,4000 of those being members of the Armed Forces.
Patrick AFB is home to the 45th Space Wing, the unit being an Air Force Space Command. The Cape Canaveral Air Force Station is a more familiar responsibility of the 45th Space Wing. Patrick AFB was built in 1940 and was briefly out of active military use from 1947-1949.
Another important function of the military located at Patrick AFB is the Defense Equal Opportunity Management Institute, which offers courses on topics as varied as ethnic studies and communication skills for non-military personnel working with the military.
