About NWS Earle, NJ
Naval Weapons Station Earle is a weapons facility located on Sandy Hook Bay in New Jersey. The station belongs to the United States Navy, and is utilized by the military branch as an ammunition testing site.
As American involvement in World War II created a rise in demand for ammunition depots in close proximity to the New York metropolitan area, a board was established to search for a suitable location. After careful consideration, the board selected the area around Sandy Hook Bay due to its rural, low-population surroundings. In 1943, the depot was commissioned, and has since been an important part of ammunition transfer because of its 2.9-mile loading pier.
Naval Weapons Station Earle employs over 400 civilian employees in fields ranging from industrial to law enforcement. In addition, the station's area job postings include retail cashiers, waiters and waitresses, and high-skill jobs such as teachers and accountants.
