Naval Base San Diego, also known as 32nd Street Naval Station, is the principal home port of the U.S. Navy's Pacific Fleet, which consists of 50 ships and over 120 tenant commands. These ships include Navy ships, Combat ships, Coast Guard Cutters, and Military Sealift Command ships.
Located in San Diego, California, it is made up of over 1,600 acres of land and 326 acres of water. The land was acquired by the Navy in 1920 as a Navy ship repair facility and underwent massive expansions during World War II.
Today, the population of the base is around 20,000 military personnel and 6,000 civilians. On base, there are support services, including Commissary shopping centers, food services, family services, recreation, medical and dental care, religious services, legal support, counseling and assistance, educational services, and child care.
