About NAS Lemoore, CA
The Naval Air Station Lemoore, located in the Fresno and King counties of California, or the Central Valley, is the United States Navy's newest and largest Master Jet Base. Commissioned in 1961, NAS Lemoore's population includes approximately 6,500 military personnel, as of 2016, and roughly 11,000 dependents.
NAS Lemoore's current operations include hosting the entire fighter/attack capability for the west coast. Lemoore is also home to some 175 Hornets and Super Hornets. NAS Lemoore's strategic position gives residents easy access to diverse cultural offerings, with the historic downtown areas of Visalia and Hanford nearby as well as Yosemite and Sequoia National Parks.
The Navy settled upon the current site for NAS Lemoore in 1954, after scouting for a location to serve as a master jet air base. The Navy's goal was a location with congestion-free air space. The Navy chose Lemoore because it has good weather for flying, is relatively inexpensive and is near to wonderful accommodations.
