About MCLB Albany, GA
Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany is run by the United States Marine Corps and is located at Albany, Georgia. The base was first established in 1952. The location was primarily chosen based on favorable geography in addition to easy access to the Atlantic and the Gulf by both road and rail.
Logistics Base Albany grew rapidly, and it currently encompasses 3300 acres while employing 2400 civilians and 600 marines. Albany is one of only two USMC logistical bases in existence; the other installation is in Barstow, California.
The primary mission of the base is the repair of U.S. Marine Corps combat equipment. It services USMC bases throughout the eastern US, and hosts the Marine Corps Logistics Command Maintenance Center. Most of this work is accomplished by civilian contractors. At the height of its activity during the Persian Gulf war, the base shipped 9 million pounds of equipment, including armored bulldozers.
