About MCAS Miramar, CA
The Marine Air Corps Station in Miramar, California is 10 miles north of San Diego and is home to the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, which is a division of the 1st Marine Expeditionary Force. The city of Miramar is known as "Fightertown USA", since it is home to squadrons of F-14 fighter jets.
The Air Corps Station and the city of Miramar have over 12,000 marines and sailors and the base employs hundreds of additional contracted workers. The city of Miramar continues to support the air base through countless contributions and holding annual events in honor of the marines and sailors willing to sacrifice their lives.
The air station was once home to the Navy Fighter Weapons School, known as the TOPGUN School, and the base's airfield is named after Admiral M.A. Mitscher who in World War II led Task Force 58. The base rests on 23,000 acres of land.
