Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point (also referred to as MCAS Cherry Point) is an aviation facility located in Havelock, North Carolina. The station belongs to the United States Marine Corps, and serves as an airfield and satellite field for the military branch.
In July of 1941, Congress authorized the station, and construction began on the 8,000 acre site the within the next month. The station was commissioned in May of 1942, where its primary purpose was to train Marine units for engagement in the Pacific theater of World War II. Since that time, it has served as an integral contributor to numerous American wars, from operations in the Vietnam War to Operation Desert Storm in the Persian Gulf War.
