About Malmstrom AFB, MT
Malmstrom AFB is operated by the United States Air Force and is located in Great Falls, Montana, the third largest city in Montana. The base was built in 1942 and has been in continual use ever since.
Malmstrom AFB has a base resident population of under 3,500, and is one of three bases anywhere in the country that maintains the Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile. The base does not have a runway for aircraft operations, but its mission is supported by helicopters.
Malmstrom AFB is home to the 341st Missile Wing of the Air Force Global Strike Command. Malmstrom AFB, which was known for a time during the Cold War as Great Falls, was instrumental in the success of the Berlin Airlift, serving as the only replacement aircrew training site for C-54 Skymasters, who reinforced the American mission not just in Berlin but across Europe.
