The selectee for this position will serve as a INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY SPECIALIST (SYS ADMIN) in the CHIEF OF STAFF OFFICE of NAVAL WAR COLLEGE.

You have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing the following duties: 1) Troubleshooting, recovering, or improving information technology (IT) systems to ensure organizational requirements are met; 2) Providing video and communication support to organizational customers; and 3) Providing documentation on relevant technological advancements pertaining to the current automation projects and have IT-related experience that demonstrates possession of each of the four required competencies: 1. Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.

An example of IT-related experience demonstrating this competency is "Monitoring server log files".

2. Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services.

An example of IT-related experience demonstrating this competency is "Working with Information Assurance (IA) personnel to ensure timely implementation of all approved security updates".

3. Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.

An example of IT-related experience demonstrating this competency is "Coordinates with internal and external customers in response to configuring systems to meet unique needs for which precedent an documentation do not exist".

4. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.

OR You have successfully completed a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree from an accredited or pre-accredited institution in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management.

OR You have successfully completed 3 full years (54 hours) of progressively higher graduate level education from an accredited or pre-accredited institution in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management; or, graduate education that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks.
