The Selective Service System is an independent agency whose mission is to (1) maintain a system that can promptly and efficiently furnish untrained manpower for induction into the Armed Forces during a national emergency and (2) provide an Alternative Service Program to men classified as conscientious objectors during a draft.

This position is part of the National Headquarters OD IT, Selective Service System.

The incumbent will be responsible for the development and organization of the databases, assessment and implementation of new technologies, and providing Information Technology with a long-term perspective on the relationship of database technology to the business opportunities facing the agency.

To qualify for the 2210 IT Specialist series, the applicant must demonstrate the following competencies: Attention to Detail - able to review data from multiple sources and determine relevant information to a given situation; Develop information requirements, configurations, policies, procedures, plans and programs; Customer Service - Act as a customer liaison by developing and maintaining relationships with customers with diverse needs; Provide technical information about products and services; Assess the needs of customers and identify or tailor products and/or services to meet their needs; Resolve non-routine problems, questions, or complaints and direct the most complex problems, questions, or complaints to the appropriate person; Oral Communication - Communicate, explain, or defend ideas or information clearly.

I listen to others and recognize potential miscommunications; and Problem Solving - Use logic to identify alternatives to solve technical problems.

Identify and solve problems by gathering and applying information from a variety of materials or sources that provide several alternatives, and to make recommendations; AND I possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service or private sector performing work that involves: 1) Apply advance IT application software development concepts and techniques (designing, coding, testing debugging, etc.) in support of the Information Technology (IT) infrastructure; 2) Utilize database management system and software to control the organization, storage, retrieval, security and integrity of data; 3) Translate functional and infrastructure requirements into technical requirements to be used in logical design or presenting alternative technologies or approaches/application prototypes; and 4) Provide clients and customers information or assistance with their IT needs through assessments, resolution of problems, recommending products and services and developing, designing and testing software and hardware.
