Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam is a Navy-operated base near Honolulu. It was created under the Base Closure and Realignment Commission. The base joins historic Naval Station Pearl Harbor with Hickam Field Air Base.

Established in the early 1900s, Pearl Harbor served U.S. interests in the Pacific and East Asia. Following the entry of the USS California into Pearl Harbor, the base fully developed, with Marine barracks, a naval hospital and a naval air station. Hickam Field is a naval air base established in 1938. Despite damages to both the naval base and the air field in the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, 1941, the joint base rebounded to become a quality, busy hub of U.S. interests.

In 2005, the Naval Base and Pearl Harbor and the Air Field at Hickam joined to form the Joint Base. The Joint Base houses over 19,000 active duty military, 22,000 dependents and 12,500 retirees and family members.
