Washington Navy Yard

The Washington Navy Yard is a former shipyard in southeast Washington D.C., and is the oldest facility of its kind in the Navy.

Built in 1799 and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1973, the Washington Navy Yard encompasses about 2.2 million square feet and includes the United States Navy Museum.

16,000 people work at the Washington Navy Yard, which currently serves as a center for Navy affairs, being home to the Chief of Naval Operations, the Naval Sea Systems Command, the Marine Corps Institute, and the United States Navy Band among others.

The site continues to be cleaned up and revitalized, and is close to transportation as well as attractions in the DC Metro area.

The Washington Navy Yard is friendly to visitors and civilians, hosting many events throughout the year.
