Fort Hunter Liggett

Fort Hunter Liggett is a United States Army fort located along the California coast, roughly in between San Francisco and Los Angeles in southern Monterrey County.

The fort is primarily a training station, with a special focus on exercises important for infantry divisions.

The fort is named after General Hunter Liggett, a veteran of the Spanish-American War and World War I. Fort Hunter Liggett was created in 1940, as part of America's preparations for World War II, on land purchased from newspaper magnate William Randolph Hearst.

In total, the fort covers 167,000 acres, making it the largest United States Army Reserve command post.

Despite its vast size, Fort Hunter Liggett does not boast a large population; only 250 personnel live on the base year-round.

However, because of its role as a training center, the fort can easily accommodate thousands of soldiers at once.
