Fort Devens

The United States Army Reserve operate out of Fort Devens, which is located in northeastern Massachusetts, just north of the Oxbow National Wildlife Refuge.

Fort Devens occupies approximately 5,000 acres of land, and is home to the United States Army Base Camp Systems Integration Laboratory, a military research institution.

Fort Devens was named after Charles Devens, a Civil War general and native son of Massachusetts.

The fort was built in 1917 as a temporary facility for training World War I soldiers.

The Army post at Fort Devens closed in 1996, and was later converted to an Army Reserve installation.

Lieutenant Colonel Charlette K. Woodward currently acts as the commanding officer at Fort Devens, overseeing roughly 300 enlisted personnel.

A portion of the former military base is now being used as the grounds for the Federal Medical Center, Devens, a prison specializing in mental health care treatment.
