Fort AP Hill

Started as an Army training facility in June, 1941, Fort A.P.

Hill is located just off Route 301 in Caroline County, Virginia, near the small town of Bowling Green.

The facility is named after native Virginian and Confederate Lieutenant General A.P.

Hill.

Fort A.P.

Hill has served a number of roles and has gone through some changes since its opening.

During the Korean Conflict, the facility was re-named Camp A.P.

Hill and served as a main staging area for troops being deployed to Europe.

In 2011, development of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Training Center (named after Captain Jason McMahon who died in Afghanistan in 2010) was completed.

The base now serves as a training facility for all branches of the United States Military.

Fort A.P.

Hill also is known for hosting the annual Boy Scouts of America National Jamboree for almost ten years starting in 1981.
