Military Base Jobs
Ellington Air Force Base, also known as Ellington Field Joint Reserve Base, is a joint base that is shared by multiple military units.
It primarily serves as the home for the Texas Air National Guard's 147th Reconnaissance Wing.
Ellington Air Force Base is located in southwestern Houston.
Ellington was built in 1917 and acted as a flight training base during World War I. The base was named after Lieutenant Eric Lamar Ellington, an Army pilot who perished in a plane crash several years prior.
During World War II, bomber pilots ran numerous test runs and flight training missions over Ellington's field.
Ellington hosts flight operations performed by NASA, in cooperation with the nearby Johnson Space Center.
Most of NASA's manned spacecrafts that are based at Johnson Space Center are currently stored and serviced at Ellington Air Force Base.
