About Grand Forks AFB, ND
Grand Forks Air Force Base is located in North Dakota, about 15 miles west of the city of Grand Forks. It is home to the Air Mobility Command's 319th Air Base Wing. The Wing is composed of two groups: Medical and Mission Support.
Established in 1955, Grand Forks Air Force Base initially was an Air Defense Command fighter-interceptor air base during the Cold War between Russia and the U.S. Today, about 6,300 military personnel live on the base.
Originally known for refueling tankers and bombers, Grand Forks Air Force Base now is home to drones and other unmanned aircraft. The base enjoys a solid relationship with the city of Grand Forks, leasing 217 acres to the city for a drone tech park.
