Fort Leavenworth is one of the most famous military installations in the world. Located in northeast Kansas, Fort Leavenworth was built in 1827, making it one of the oldest military bases in the country. The fort is named after Colonel Henry Leavenworth, who built it to protect the Santa Fe Trail. Fort Leavenworth was a highly important installation during the Indian Wars of the 1800s, and was also used as a training ground for soldiers during the 20th Century.

The facility is run by the United States Army. Fort Leavenworth is home to the United States Army Combined Arms Center, a school where Army officers learn the most innovative new leadership strategies and combat tactics. The fort also houses the United States Disciplinary Barracks, a maximum security military prison.

Fort Leavenworth employs over two thousand people, most of them being students at the Combined Arms Center and support personnel for the facility. The installation also employs many military police officers who work in the Army's correctional center.
