Located in San Juan, Puerto Rico, the United States Army Garrison Fort Buchanan Puerto Rico is operated by the United States Army. Most activities conducted at Fort Buchanan support the United States Armed Forces Reserve Component. In addition to the Puerto Rico National Guard, Fort Buchanan is home to the United States Army Reserve, Navy Reserve and Marine Corps Reserve.
Camp Buchanan, the predecessor to Fort Buchanan, was established in 1908. Troops housed at Camp Buchanan defended the Canal Zone in the First World War. Renamed Fort Buchanan in 1940, the installation played a role in the Second World War and the Korean War, protecting U.S. interests in Latin America.
