About Fort Bragg, NC
The United States Army's Fort Bragg is the largest military base in the world, in terms of population, with over 50,000 active duty personnel. The 251 square mile facility is spread out across Hoke, Harnett, Cumberland and Moore counties in North Carolina. Not far away are the towns of Spring Lake, Fayetteville and Southern Pines. When it was established in 1918, it was called Camp Bragg, named after Confederate General Braxton Bragg.
Fort Bragg is the headquarters for the United States Army Special Operations Command, the XVIII Airborne Corps, Army Rangers, United States Army Forces Command, United States Army Reserve Command and the Womack Army Medical Center. Also located at Fort Bragg are two airfields, Pope Field and Simmons Army Airfield.
Fort Bragg made the news on July 3, 2016, when it became the first military installation to host a regular season Major League Baseball game between the Atlanta Braves and Miami Marlins at its newly-constructed Fort Bragg Stadium.
