About Camp Lejeune, NC
Jacksonville, North Carolina, is home to the east coast command of the United States Marine Corps. It has over 245 square miles of land including 14 miles that runs along the Atlantic Ocean. This facility was created during the early 1940s with six supporting satellite bases including the Marine Corps Air Station New River.
The United States Marine Corps is responsible for daily operations of Camp Lejeune with almost two dozen divisions including the II Marine Expeditionary Force. Additional tenant units include a Navy hospital command, engineering school, Intelligence Battalion, and a Special Operations Command. This installation has its own school system, housing department, and commissary.
As one of three training camps, over 170,000 military, families, and civilian personnel live and work here. Its world-renowned training facilities assist forces from other nations. From its position, combat ready troops and equipment are launched from stations in Wilmington to the south or Morehead City in the north.
