About Camp Edwards, MA
Camp Edwards is operated by the Massachusetts National Guard and is located in western Barnstable County, which includes Cape Cod and is close to Nantucket. Camp Edwards was built by the United States Army in 1911 and has been used ever since, especially in both World Wars and the Cold War.
Camp Edwards is the largest component of Joint Base Cape Cod, which includes Otis Air National Guard Base and Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod. Joint Base Cape Cod then encompasses 22,000 acres of land, of which Camp Edwards takes up 15,000.
Camp Edwards has enough housing for 2,500 service members and is an important training center for soldiers from New England as well as for civilians involved as first responders and law enforcement. It is the largest training area in the Northeastern United States.
