About Barksdale AFB, LA
Barksdale AFB is operated by the United States Air Force and is located in Bossier Parish in northwest Louisiana, which is located near Shreveport. The base was built in 1931 and has more or less been in continual use ever since.
Barksdale AFB covers over 22,000 acres of land, and more than 15,000 active-duty personnel, Reservists, and civilians work there. The area is amenable and close to sites off-base in the community and surrounding cities.
Around 40 B-52 Stratofortress aircraft are assigned to the base's host unit, the 2d Bomb Wing. The 2d Bomb Wing trains all Air Force Global Strike Command and Air Force Reserve Command Boeing B-52 Stratofortress aircraft crew. The 2d Bomb Wing is also responsible for providing global combat capability when needed.
